I’m always on the look out for money saving things for my reef aquarium, after all who isn’t? This is a very expensive hobby. Probably the biggest expense with my aquariums is of course electricity. Anyone having Metal Halides knows that at least 50% of their energy costs related to their saltwater addiction are coming from their lights. Then of course thats where LED’s come in, they are supposed to last some ridiculous amount of hours (like 50,000 to be exact) and never go out. However I’ve seen LED’s first hand and right now I don’t think they are quite ready for the aquarium hobby. I’ve talked to a lot of people that bought them and quite a lot of them have regretted buying them, either with entire LED groups not working or the amount of light wasn’t enough for their SPS ligh eaters. But I will be watching them in the next few years, and as soon as they are I will be ditching my 250 watt metal halides and buying something will all the electricity costs that I saved. Maybe about that time those Tunze NanoStreams will be over here from Germany finally.
