Octi the octopus has surprised aquarium visitors with a very clever trick.

Keepers at the National Aquarium of New Zealand have taught the cunning sea creature to open bottles to retrieve a tasty treat inside.

Octi was brought to the aquarium three months ago by a family who found her in rock pool off the east coast of New Zealand.

Keepers quickly noticed Octi’s friendly nature and potential to perform advanced octopus tricks.

Her keeper Libor Mach said: “We know octopus are really intelligent so we try to play some games with her.”

Octi is now able to perform the bottle trick – by grabbing the bottle lid with two of her tentacles, then using each single suction cup to pry the lid open – in under two-and-a-half minutes.
