Andy’s Reef

Andy over at Elder Reef can’t seem to get his aquascaping right, or at least he thinks so. Aquascaping is by far one of the most challenging things in running a saltwater aquarium. We all want that perfect look, and depending on our live rock shipments we receive or our LFS collection that can vary. I just re did the rock work on my aquarium as well - and unlike Andy I am not too happy about it. This is of course knowing that we really shouldn’t be moving the rock around, we should set it and be done with it. It could be easier to have 600 gallons of aquarium landscaping to play with. Ha! We only wish! Who knew live rock was so tricky?

One Response to “Andy can’t seem to get happy with his aquascaping…until now.”

  1. A recent Marine Depot catalog quoted the following from Eric Borneman’s “Reefkeeping Disasters and Lessons Learned, Part 2″ It gave me a chuckle when I first saw it, and it’s definitely topical:

“Always approach rock stacking and aquascaping with a calm frame of mind. It is an arduous and tedious task that in the long run will be respnsible for your entire reef. Careful consideration and utmost surety of stability is imperative. It is also important for good water movement, hiding places for fish, and a healthy reef.

    “Lesson #2

“When arranging rocks, especially for the new reef hobbyist, it is important to ‘pre-think’ what and where future specimens will be placed. Realize that in the near future corals will grow and eventually attach to the reef, and will no longer be able to be moved without breakage.”

    ** HERE’S THE REALLY GOOD PART ;-) **

    “Lesson #3

“If possible, have a tall, ambidexterous, long-armed, tolerant, mute and deaf reef loving assistant by your side at all times.”
