After quite a bit of frustration trying to get two different SCWDs to work on one of our return lines, we discovered that the 1″ unit does not switch direction when confronted with the back pressure produced by adding a penductor on the outlets. Apparently, the pressure causes the internal “valve” to press against one of the outlets, preventing the mechanism inside from rotating to redirect the water flow. Now we know aquarists who have used eductors on smaller SCWD models but the compatibility of the SCWD and flow multiplying devices is probably also dependent on the type of pump used, whether it is flow or pressure rated, yadi ya. This incompatibility certainly puts a damper on our future return line and closed loop plans, a note has been sent off to the manufacturer 3iQ Ventures for comment or sugestions regarding some possible solutions.

Hello, my name is Paul Muscarella. I am one of the owners of 3iQ. From time to time I like to view online feedback. I found your page and wanted to provide some additional input related to the Penductors. As you point out, under certain conditions, depending on pump size, back pressure and outlet line configuration, the SCWD may not switch consistently with Penductors or other restrictive outlet fittings. To address this, we have designed a Flow Extender that fits inside the SCWD Housing at the inlet. The Flow Extender basically provides a more focused flow of water to the Drive Impeller, which will allow the SCWD to operate under high turbulent, high back pressure conditions, as well as with lower volume applications. Additionally, the Flow Extender will not reduce your flow.
The Flow Extenders now come packaged with the 1″ SCWD. For anyone that has purchased a SCWD without the Flow Extender, they may contact us and we will send one out, free of charge.
Thank you for your interest in our products and providing an opportunity to forward this information.
