tap-water-dfs1

Drs. Foster smith has decided to jump on the bandwagon with videos, and we got our hands on their “Acclimation procedure for Aquatic life” video. Besides having a R-O-B-O-T narrator, we caught a nice glisten of a big no-no. We would normally tell you which time frame for you to jump to but alas they have decided to pick a flash player that doesn’t use a time frame display. Isn’t that nice? Anyways, a demonstrator shows a bucket being filled up with tap water? And here we thought there was actually a reason to go purchase a RO/DI unit to filter our water. Silly us.

    What an advice! lol
I have been looking at many videos for my own blog and let me tell you that Dr Foster and Smith are not the only one giving weird ideas.

BTW: Here in the canadian arctic, we don’t really need RO units. Our water is just great. I have been using tap water for my 3 reef tanks for the last few years and my coral (hard and sorf) are doing just great. I wish it could be the same every where.
Unfortunately, tropical fish and coral are quite difficult to get here.

    Have a great day!

Aw come on Ryan, stop hating. Most people don’t use R.O. and I dont either. I have great water here at the front range of the Rocky Mtns and unless your water is high in Phosphate or Ammonia, your tank will be fine with treated tap water.

That being said, I wish there was more attention paid to filtering with a mechanical and carbon cartridge even without using an R.O.

Thanks for watching our video, and pointing out areas of improvement. I will be forwarding this blog post to our Video Team on Monday, and hopefully they will take this issue into consideration and can edit the video to mention using an R.O. Unit.

How do you know that this is tap water? What if that is RO water out of that faucet?
