neonano1

Look out Zero Edge, Elos and Red Sea, this home-grown all-in-one nano tank from Deepsea Aquatics brings some serious innovation to the high end nano aquarium market. The first step outside of the box for the Neo Nano is a departure from the cube to rectangle shape that is typical these days. The Neo Nano is trimless, it has a 24″ square base and it is about 16″ high. The sacrifice of viewing area is more than made up by a large surface area for your LPS, SPS or clams, just about any kind of reef you can think of.  Details of the “Cascade” filtration are mum but the return water design is actually very neat. A tower of water against the back of the aquarium builds up pressure which is released through subsurface inlet holes in the base of the tower. These inlets can be closed or opened using the included tabs. The broad viewing area, trimless glass and calm water surface is sure to make this a popular showpiece aquarium. Pricing is still to be determined and you can count on Reef Builders to post new details on the Neo Nano as soon as it available. Photographs by John Ciotti.

Local store had one. Price was around 900 without the light. The one thing I like about it, is the cascade return. It keeps the surface water calm and allows for clear top down viewing. The back wall also accomodates clamp on lights. The stand was so-so. It was a front panel that pops off, and inside was a sump of your choice. My problem with it, is that it was cheap particle board with laminate, and the sump didn’t permit much room for a FW resevoir of some sort. At least the Elos has a top off resevoir. With a large surface area like the the neonano, evap would be quite quick.

This tank does not compare to Elos in any way, shape or form. It could work decently as a frag or clam tank, but you will certainly need more than a clamp on light as the back panel rises up too high. Also the beveling on the edges of the glass is cheapy.
