Hey, Have you all actually read this thing? It means any and all animals that may HARM the economy, people, and native animals of the US. Not actually anything exotic, like birds, fish, etc. I think some people get hyped up over nothing.

So far the only other people that read the bill posted on this forum were igozoom and julianne. To Ed (wildmorph) why are you spreading fear to others who might think you know what your talking about when you clearly have not read the bill. Your reply made me want to put my tinfoil hat back on so the man can't read my thoughts. There is a grandather clause that will allow people to keep their non-native/invasive pets Section 3 paragraph f. There is a definate timeline in which the task force will determine non-native but safe for import and non-native and potentially invasive/deleterious to your health not acceptable for import (Sec 3 par.E). I for one support it since there will be extra investment in captive breeding programs and there will be lots of new government jobs available to staff the larger renamed task force.....beats joining the military to get a pension nowadays....Seriously people read what is proposed rather than freak out that your civil liberties are being violated. This has been caused in part by people releasing non native invasive species into the wild and the government having to foot the bill for clean up. Don't believe me "google it"

Please join me in opposing, H.R. 669, the Nonnative Wildlife Invasion Prevention Act. This Bill is being advanced by powerful special interest groups and creates an unworkable process which is designed to fail. The government simply does not have the resources to evaluate the thousands of nonnative species already in this country for years and meet the unrealistic listing criteria and timeframes in the law, and such a process is unnecessary for controlling truly invasive species. There is absolutely no evidence to suggest that banning the import, sale, and trade of the vast majority of these animals will have any positive effect on the economy, environment, or human or animal species' health. In fact, if passed as drafted, H.R. 669 would destroy many families and businesses. It would have a decidedly negative impact on an already ailing economy by destroying a vital and growing industry at a time when our country is in need of jobs and growth.

Pet lovers such as myself support a legislative solution that targets species which may actually be invasive, rather than every species not originally native to the U.S., including thousands of species that have been in this country for decades without adverse impact. This Bill is a disaster to American business owners as well as pet owners who care deeply about their pets and face having to dispose of them because of a flawed law.

Government has enough problems. Why should it go beyond the US Code regulations already in place regarding the importation of wildlife. Why doesn't government spend its time on issues that need to be fixed. I am tired of having to consult a regulation for virtually every aspect of my life. It is exhausting and intrusive into my civil liberties.

HR669 has died more than once so I don't see this as a major problem. If you read the bill's full text there is greater concern placed on the importation than the current ownership of the animals. Also it has just been sent to committee so we are a long way from anything happening.

Good for them. This hobby could use some regulation. I would love to know that when I plop down my hard earned money for a wild captured fish, it was harvested without the use of cyanide or... say it ain't so... aquacultured! Regulation does not have to mean prohibition and bills are always introduced with enough ambiguity that they can be modified by public dissent and lobbies.
