red-dragon-pump

Royal Exclusiv has updated their popular Red Dragon pumps with some subtle but really useful, next generation features. For those of you keeping track, these are Red Dragon I pumps and not the other Red Dragon II pumps we’ve seen before. Some of the features are incremental upgrades such as optimized volutes and impellers, a titanium shaft is included in the large volume 10m3 and 12m3 pumps but the biggest upgrade is that little red tube staring right at you. The red R.O. line linking the motor block and the volute is the new bypass system which draws water around the body of the motor block to keep it running cool. Since calcium-carbonate (lime) precipitates at higher temperatures, the cool operating design reduces the buildup of calcium which is a real concern for calcium rich reef tanks. Less buildup means the pump will run better and more efficiently for longer and less maintenance for you. The new Red Dragon pump breakdown can be found below.

4.5 m3 |  1,188gph | 48w
6.5 m3| 1,717gph | 65w
8.2 m3 | 2,166gph | 75w
10 m3 | 2,641gph | 98w with new titanium shaft
12 m3 | 3,170gph | 115w with new titanium shaft

Does anybody think this would inject heat into the tank? Or is it negligible?

This does not inject any more heat into the tank, The pump generates same amount of heat wether you have this or not, by cooling the rotor further you are increasing it’s life & in saltwater application you are reducing the chance of quick calcification so less maintenance.
