A new Reef Octopus cone skimmer model has been spied, this model unlike the recently announced external model appears to be some sort of space saver design. Remember, ATB released a space saver type protein skimmer earlier this year and it appears that Reef Octopus wants to get in on the action. Notice the pump placed underneath the skimmer to reduce space? That is the tell-tale sign that this pump is the “space saver” edition. Most all major protein skimmer manufacturers are getting into this design method, including Eshopps.

Correct me if Im wrong, but credit should go where credit is due… I think the original skimmer to use the ’space saver’ pump placement was the Bubbleking Mini line. If someone can trace it back further… chime in. I suppose the MCE600 by deltec would be another… it has the vertical pump placement at least. Then the smallest ATI bubblemaster. The only disadvantage (in some cases like here, but not say, with the BK mini) is that this places the pump lower on the skimmer relative to the water line, so you end up with less air intake (if the pump is the same).
Jon, man all I can say is this company Octopus have no shame. First they copied the laguna pump, which we in the hobbyists communities already find that ridicilous already. now this, wonder that’s going to be next, this is a joke, haha.
Chris, totally agreed with you, no shame. this octopus company is making money off from peoples innovation. wondered why there’s no innovation from them at all. oh that’s not in their mind set, my bad.
