We received higher quality shots of the automated skim clean system with wash down. This system like we stated earlier is very similar to large commercial skimmers that have a wash down system. The photos show a custom made wash down lid with a built in skim clean. AquaDriver the company producing these doesn’t have a standard one size-fits all model but rather has to custom design these so they will fit within the lid system. It’s not cheap for all this custom CNC and modeling work. Also another problem that could arise is having enough water pressure for the system to work, with out proper water pressure the collection cup can not get squeaky clean. We have more pictures and video below the break.

Most of us would fit in the category of having to clean out our protein skimmers on a daily/weekly schedule. It’s something we have gotten used to. True, we might have a outlet for the skim to drain into another collection cup or directly into a drain, but we still have to take the time to clean out the collection cup and neck to get the best results. Instead of doing this though you could purchase a skim cleaning device know as a SkimClean by Aquadriver. This will clean the interior of the collection cup allowing it to go for long periods of time without having to be cleaned by you. What we found though is something different, a skim clean that has a built in wash down system. You’ll notice the red bit of tubing going inside the collection cup. Nifty isn’t it? You notice the red spray bar too? Yes, it is safe to say that we want one. If you didn’t notice yet, this prototype wash down cleaning system is being tested on a ATB skimmer and if you thought the normal Skim Cleans were expensive then this washdown system isn’t going to be any cheaper. Not to worry, we don’t expect this to appear in the US or UK markets for some time now. But if you live in Europe you can ask about availability of this new wash down system currently being tested. Jump down below for a video of the system in action, but you already knew that right?

Are you having a problem not passing enough flow through your system? Odds are if you talked to your doctor about it, he would recommened the AquaDriver T50 setup. Its really very simple. The system works by attaching the unit to a wavemarker or pump over in Europe the Tunze Stream’s are popular. After that, the flow the streams produce powers the T50 system by using a complex system of gears and turbines. The result is nice random flow that should make your reef happy. Don’t expect to see these in the US anytime soon, but if you live in the UK you are already better off as some stores over there seem to carry them for 99 Euros ($136) or 89.12 in UK pounds.

Having a hard time catching that starfish your tank? He is a sneaky guy isn’t he? Aquadriver has a tool that you’ll no doubt want to pay close attention to. The star catcher is for starfish, snails and other creatures that happen to be stuck on your glass that you might not want there. It’s made in Germany and machined by a CNC machine, you can expect to dish out 43 Euros ($57.00) for this thing to aid you in your star catching adventures. You’ll either have to know someone from Germany or import this another way as you won’t find this in US stores. But then again, you probably knew that already right?
For European protein skimmers the holy grail of skimming is a self-cleaning-head or SCH as it is mentioned among users. The self cleaning head promises to deliver better efficiency as it no doubt cleans the head of the skimmer allowing fresh bubbles to do its thing.
For European protein skimmers the holy grail of skimming is a self-cleaning-head or SCH as it is mentioned among users. The self cleaning head promises to deliver better efficiency as it no doubt cleans the head of the skimmer allowing fresh bubbles to do its thing. The Aquadriver is perhaps the only self cleaning head system that is a true SCH, granted Red Sea’s C skim protein skimmer uses water jets to clean, the AquaDriver is on a whole other playing field. Machined in Germany, Aquadriver has 6 different models in which to choose from each included their own DC pump, and instructions. You’ll still need to size these correctly for your protein skimmer too. The AquaDriver skim clean 160 starts the line off and carries a price of 539 EUR ($746) while the AquaDriver skim clean 400 is the higher end model coming in at 612 EUR ($847.25). The AquaDriver SCH have begun arriving here in the US in late November of 2008 and we should start to see these spring up at specialty stores across the United States and UK.
