That TECO seachill TR30 we showed you earlier is similar to this unit, it uses the same outside face, and thats about it. Inside you’ll find a full 1HP chiller ready for your aquarium up to 1300 gallons. Having the same demensions as the other TR30 which are 24″ x 15″ x 22″ and weighing at about 111 pounds. Consuming a reasonable 980 watts and offers 1″ connections. Built in UV and heaters are still offered. Cooh huh? Retail is said to come in around $2200.
Seriously it is. Hooking this up to your water system will yield you between 7.9 gallons and 15.8 gallons. Besides being used for your nano aquarium, you could use this to make ice cubes and you could even hook it up for your own drinking water in addition to your aquarium. Retail is only $99 and you can pick of these up at any retailer that carries Tunze products.
Buffer Plus, a new refreshed product from Carib Sea. Containing calcium and trace elements and it is now in a dry form, versus the previous generations in which it was a liquid forum. Doing this, enables Buffer Plus to deliever twice the power in the same product. It plays nice with products that contain calcium chloride or ionically imbalanced supplements. Pick it up at your favorite LFS or online retailer. Were not sure on a retail, but we would guess it to be around $20.
H&S from Germany has a new massive aquarium protein skimmer. The A4003X5000 which uses 3 Aquabee needlewheel 5000 pumps. It’s about 4 feet tall and is 16″ in diameter can handle your total aquarium water volume of 2000 gallons. Yeah that’t a lot. Retails for $4799 and don’t expect any discounts on this bad boy. Avaiable now. If you happen to be in Atlanta were sure you could pick one up for a reasonable price.
TECO released a new TR5 aquarium chiller unit. The unit which should handle an aquarium up to 60 gallons (wow) comes in at a sturdy 27lbs while pushing out a respectable 1/12 HP. It is a smaller unit that will be able to hide under your aquarium stand with dimensions of 12.5″ x 9.5″ x 13.5″. Of course the standard options of having built in heat and UV applies to this unit too. Rumored price? Less than $499. We’ll take two.
Coral RX, which is a dip used to treat common problems associated with corals, including flatworms and other unwanted critters that are usually connected with the coral in some fashion or another. Coral RX claims however claims to remove Montipora eating Nudibranch’s. Other products that come to mind that have had good results are TMPCC or CoralRevive. There aren’t many reviews about this product, or really that many people actually using it either. However, we would like to know if it kills the eggs, which are one of the most difficult things to do with an all in one dip. Few stores and online retailers carry this product so we suggest that you contact your LFS for them to order some in. The 8oz bottle which is shown makes 16 gallons. Follow the read link for more blurb from Coral RX and their new product. (more…)
Meet the Lighhouse Pro XLS commercial aquarium controller. It is a bulletproof aquarium controller that should help you deal with your tank ranging from 100-800 gallons. It can control more then one tank at a Time, which is pretty cool if you ask us. By far the coolest thing though we have found with this new controller is the fact that it functions as a web server and email server. Being able to send you emails when something happends or doesn’t happen is very powerful in our books. Not only can it send emails with a built in POP3 server, it can also send you a text message. Were in love. Retails for about $700 for the starter package. Click the read link for more details and be sure to check out the gallery below.
The Banggai cardinalfish are one of the more popular saltwater fish for the aquarium hobby. It looks similar to the freshwater angelfish with its silver and black coloration. The bottom and top of the caudal peduncle have a black stripe that is white edged that goes to the tip of the caudal fin. The pelvic fin along with the anal fin are very similar to the two seperate dorsal fins, and almost seem to mirror the other.
This fish was discovered not that long ago in 1990 in the Banggai Islands of Sulawesi in Indonesida. These fish are easily bred in the home aquarium and in public aquariums. They will eat all meaty foods, including live brine shrimp plus fresh or frozen foods. These are peaceful fish and will only sometimes quarrel between themselves.
Introduction
Fish Locomotion is a field of study that looks at how fish swim. This may seem simple enough but there are many intricacies of muscle movement, fin shape, body design, habitat, prey selection, and inherent traits. By investigating how a particular fish (or group of fishes) move in their environment a hobbyist can better create environments for these animals. Click the read link to read more.
Those new and powerful Hydor Koralia Magnum powerheads finally got priced. They were rumored to hit in August and that they did. The Koralia Magnum 5 which is rated for up to 1650GPH lands at $130, while the Koralia Magnum 6 which pushes 2200GPH is only $10 more at $140. The Koralia Magnum 7 which moves 2800 GPH is still unexpensive at $160. Finally the Koralia Magnum 8 which blows your tank away with 3250GPH lands in the US market for $170. Hydor likes to release non-controllable units first, then come back and release controllable units. At least thats what they have been doing and we see no reason for them to stop. Hopefully these units will be avaiable at Macna to get a better look at by us.
Got a bevy of pictures of the Elos moonlight we were wondering about earlier. Seems it uses the same technology that is found in a common nightlight that you could buy at walmart. Still our interest is increasing and we want one. You can look at additional pictures below.
Clownfish are borne they spend about 10 to 12 days in sea, carried by prevailing currents. How do they always return back home to the area in which they were borne? They sniff for leaves that fall into the sea from rainforests growing on the islands near their coral reef homes. Interesting too is the scientists also tested clownfish that were born and raised in an aquarium, and had never lived on the reefs or the open sea. These were strongly attracted to the scents of leaves and anemones as well, suggesting these preferences are innate.
We can never seem to get enough of Elos System mini pictures and it seems users love them all the more so. Unlike the other photo’s we brought you, we are getting some nice close up shots of the e-lite which is Elos first US available LED light. The above picture shows the e-lite in its full glory. However the moonlight which the little blue tab beneath the array of LEDs is what interests us the most. How is it light produced? LED’s? Or some uknown method? Additional pictures are below in the gallery.
If your looking for a new nano protein skimmer, we have been following the new Euro Reef nano protein skimmer for some time now. Euro reef did to decide to release a nice teaser video, claiming to have the worlds best yada yada yada. Frankly we want these out of the beta stange and into our hands for testing. We still have no word on a supposed release date or even pricing for that matter. But you can still sit back and dream of your future nano getting a nice jump in the skimmer department. Let’s just hope that these perform better then Current’s attempt at a nano protein skimmer.
