If you haven’t heard of Elos suncolor system, your not the only one. Suncolor is a 150w HQI lamp that has the ability to change temperature of the light from 10,000k all the way to 22,000k. It is controlled by a computer that is integrated to the hood itself. In the video it is shown in “demo” mood so that it cycles through all the Kelvin ratings (10,000k to 22,000k). This isn’t an LED system, but rather a real 150W HQI. It uses “sun shades” to alter the light. With typical LED units, you only have access to two types of light: White LEDs and actnics. With that type of LED lighting unit the only varations you can receive are different levels of those two lights. The Elos suncolor system is trully amazing and it has been around for over 10 years, getting contstantly improved. No word on pricing, but contact your favorite elos retailer about ordering this unit.
Got a bevy of pictures of the Elos moonlight we were wondering about earlier. Seems it uses the same technology that is found in a common nightlight that you could buy at walmart. Still our interest is increasing and we want one. You can look at additional pictures below.
We can never seem to get enough of Elos System mini pictures and it seems users love them all the more so. Unlike the other photo’s we brought you, we are getting some nice close up shots of the e-lite which is Elos first US available LED light. The above picture shows the e-lite in its full glory. However the moonlight which the little blue tab beneath the array of LEDs is what interests us the most. How is it light produced? LED’s? Or some uknown method? Additional pictures are below in the gallery.

You’ll remember us telling you about the Elos price increase a few days ago. Over the past week the Euro had dropped about 10 cents to the American Dollar. As such we think that it might be possible that the price increased for Elos products might be stalled to see how the market shapes up. We have received no word from Elos about the price increased even with a promised August 7th date. We aren’t complaining about not having a price increase, we would just like a straight yes or no answer and what products have been decided upon.
And we are not really sure what will go up if anything. Some sources say that their whole line is going up except their test kits, while others say it is a just a few of their products. Time will tell and we will be here August 7th with more details. Stay tuned.
Apparently there was a lot of confusion about the new lighting types Elos released at Interzoo. We stated earlier that the Elos power pendants would be coming stateside soon. While that being true what we did not state is the new Manta bracket, the Manta bracket is the bracklet that links two elos power lights together, optionally enabling you to add an Elos e-lite (led) light to the mix, which is what Elos did at Interzoo. In the above picture you’ll notice the two seperate elos e-power lights With the addition of the Manta bracket joining them together. These Manta brackets will be avaialabe in the US soon, which should easily allow greenbacks from un-bonding from your wallet.
Like we said earlier, the new elos e-power pendants will come in two flavors, one without the ballast ($449.99), and the other with an icecap ballast ($579.99). Pricing has been revelaed to cost only $120 for a 250watt IceCap ballast. All include 3 year warranty, hanging kit and glass cover. These should be hitting US stores at the end of July, but as with most things, that is subject to change. Ask your favorite elos retailer.
e-power 250w with IceCap ballast- 579.99
e-power naked 250w with cord only- 449.99
Did you notice the pendants are a bit different then the ones we first brought you here? Apparently these prices are for the actual metal halide unit only and not the dual metal halide and LED unit which was shown in the original post back in May 2008. This version is known as the “e-power pendants with optional e-lite LED unit”. We are wondering how much the optional e-lite LED version is, if it is even imported here in the states.
Elos announced that their new e-power lighting that was released at Interzoo 2008 will come with two options for ballasts. The first option is a stand-alone version that will not come with a ballast. You will be responsible for installing a ballast and connecting the wires. The other option includes an icecap ballast with the unit. These should hit US shores later this year.
Are you tired of trying to interpret your test kits? Elos has come out with a new colorimeter to help you accuratly testing your aquarium water parameters. A Colorimeter is an instrument that compares the amount of light that passes through a solution with the amount that passes through the pure “solvent”. So clear the unit, add the reagent, then the colorimeter will pass light through and process the results and display them to you. No word of an ETA of when these might be available in the United States, but we sure would like to have one. We expect this unit to be in the $200+ range. Still this takes a lot of the color matching work away, which is well worth the price.
Elos has just officially released the new Elos System mini and the nifty e-lite LED lighting unit. If you happen to just want the light or not want the e-lite, its a cool $700. Some of the specifications of the new nano aquarium from Elos include:
Elos MINI pool (17″ x 17″ x 16″) ~20 gallons.
Elos SQUARE stand- 35.5″ tall.
Crystal Clear Glass-91% clarity, low iron front panel
Elos proprietary Black silicone sealed.
Plug and play: each aquarium includes all the necessary equipment: tubing & plumbing for an easy set-up.
Elos surface overflow.
Elos SUMP 100 with eheim return pump and built in top off reservoir.
You can stop by your local Elos dealer to see if they have any in stock yet, which isn’t likely. Shipments of the new Elos system mini should arrive in the next few weeks.
We got word that the new mini reef system 70 from elos should hit the US by June. Which means that most local and internet dealers should get these things in for pre-orders in late June as well. We found the full specs list on Elos new baby:

We can’t help but stop starring at Elos new products, the one that really has our eye is the new mini reef with LEDs. Sure to please anyone’s tastes. We can’t wait until these are released into the states. If you like to look at other Elos products, be sure to check out Danilo Ronchi’s Elos blog, he has quite a lot of information pertaining to Elos. He writes in Italian (his native tongue) but he translates most of his articles into English too. Now, if we could just get one of these new mini reefs that would just make our day.
Elos new e-power pendants. They are connected by a bracket that is designed to allow you to direct each pendant to specific spots in your aquarium (awesome) and you can add an optional e-lite fitted with blue leds (for actinic needs). Another picture after the jump.
