We are getting reports that the Red Sea Max 250, the 65 gallon all in one aquarium will be ready for a release date in Novemeber. If your wondering why it has taken it so long to come across the pond, it seems the Germans loved the Red Sea Max 250 so much at Interzoo 2008 when we reported it that Red Sea has been busy making units for that country while leaving us out to dry. Thankfully production levels have caught up and we should see the Red Sea Max 250 begin arriving at local retailers. We aren’t sure if this unit will be sold on online due to the shipping charges involved but if we had to bet on it we would say yes. The price of $1499 is still holding up and we will let you know if that chnages.
Red Sea’s Max 250 is expected to launch later this year. With 2008 only having about 3 more months left our bet is that it will launch before Christmas hits in December. Rumor has it that the US market should receive the third of fourth batch of Red Sea’s goodness. We finally nailed down specs on Red Sea’s Max 250 coming in at 234 watts of T5 linear lighting and 117 watts of Actinic lighting and 4 blue LEDs for that oh so loved moonlight. Water movement will be at 960 GPH via two pumps with adjustable direction outlets. Red Sea is also calling this a 65 gallon aquarium, not the 66 gallon aquarium as we previously posted. The price for all of this? $1499.
Sometimes we think that Red Sea likes to torture us. They are doing a good job here at MACNA, with their uber new Max 250 system. We were of course like the rest of the world to see the new unit in action here at MACNA. Alas this was not the case. Apprently inventory and stocking levels are the biggest problem, or in other words the sheer lack that they don’t have any to send to this show is the factor.
The Red Sea C-skim protein skimmer has been see in its glory. It’s all boxed and ready to be opened by Red Sea staff so we can give you all the juicy details. Stay Tuned for more on that later. Self cleaning head washing system anyone?
Click the play button above to see Red Sea’s new C skim in action. Also Red Sea says that the C-skim is not part of the Red Sea Max 250 as originally thought. The Red Sea Max 250 will be having a pro skimmer which injects 300lph air/80gph. We haven’t heard anything of this pro skimmer. So perhaps details will leak out soon? And yes we are still expecting to hit our shores in about a month.
The newest protein skimmer to go under the Red Sea Max 250 is Red Sea’s C-Skim protein skimmer. You’ll remember it was boasting features such as integral neck washing system, FoamView™ skim adjustment window, 450 lph (120 gph) air injection to name a few. Any aquarist wanting to pick one of these up for his tank is going to spend $350 for one of these guys. Dealers won’t get these in stock for at least another month, so plan an October coming out party. Some of us are debating that the “C” stands for clean, but we really have no idea if that’s true or not. Regardless, we want to see one of these in action.
Details finally came out for Red Sea’s newest product, the C-Skim 1200. You’ll remember that we did mention the C-Skim protein skimmer a few months ago at Interzoo 2008 with Red Sea’s arrival of the Red Sea Max 250. The C-Skim features: highly effective skim reactor, Integral neck washing system, FoamView™ skim adjustment window, 450 lph (120 gph) air injection, Stand-alone or In-sump. Of all those features the one that caught our eye the most is of course the neck washing system. “The patent pending integrated neck washing system developed specifically for the C-Skim diverts the water from the skim chamber to an annular spray ring around the top of the neck that sprays concentrated jets of water onto the inside of the neck, washing all of the accumulated sludge back into the reaction chamber. Returning the water flow back to the skim chamber flushes the sludge into the collection cup for easy disposal.” Taking up a footprint of 13.4 x 10 inch including aspiration pump and having a height of 21 1/4 inches we are very interested to see how this protein skimmer performs. For tanks up to 100 gallons with heavy SPS stocking or up to 175 gallons for heavy LPS stocking. No word on price, but we don’t expect this to be a budget hobbyist skimmer.
We received an unconfirmed report that Red Sea’s uber cool Red Sea max 250 is supposed to hit US shores early 2009. Please remember to take this with a big grain of salt and it most likely is another reef rumor. However, if this is true the UK should receive the Red Sea max 250 before the US does. Price should drop in the UK for £1200 ($2349), here is hoping that in the US it is much cheaper.
We got a sliver of an update for UK dwellers that are interested in Red Sea’s new Red Sea Max 250 66 gallon aquarium. It should hit your country by the end of 2008. Still no word on when the US will see this new all in one unit. This is the first picture we have seen that encompasses the new stand and we must say we think they could have designed a better looking stand. Still we are eagerly awaiting this to hit US shores.
Meet the Red sea Max 250, which is larger then the small Red Sea max that we reviewed. Said to be arriving in Fall 2008, this all in one system is sure to impress. With the release of the Red Sea Max 250 comes their newest filter named the “C-Skim” which will be able to handle the larger bio load of this aquarium. The skimmer features a one touch level to clean the tube which certainly has our attention. More pictures after the jump!
Update: We have found out more specs: The Red Sea Max 250 will be available in black, silver or white. It comes with 6×39 watt T5 lighting, which equals to 236 watts of total lighting. Built in fans and lights are controlled with the T5’s lights via a nice digital timer. Dual aquarium pumps which produce about 15x aquarium turnover at 3600 lph (950 GPH). Not to be neglected is a full size turbo injected protein skimmer called the “C-skim” (pictured) which gives 300lph of air which is powered by a 2400 lph (633 GPH) pump. Comes with all the mechanical, biological and chemical stages as the orginal red sea max. There will be a chiller kit available soon and the stand will be able to easily accommodate this. Expect the power center to be the same as the smaller model with one cord going to the main socket.
