Default White 'Sand' in my tank

Just lost most of my fish to Ich. It seems to be cleared up and the remaining fish and inverts are healthy appearing.

Now it appears I have 'something' living in my tank.

There are white sand sized particals living on the water surface. They are clearly alive since they swim down or against the current. In addition there are while sand sized sonethings on the glass. On close inspection, they are fiddlehead spirals... like a prepared/cooked shrimp shape.

Anyone point me in the general direction of researching what I might be seeing?

55 gal FOWLR, 1 clown, 1 damsel, lots of corpses (removed what the starfish and crabs didnt clear out overnight).
