Re: Hair Algae Thanks For Trying To Help. My Tank Is About 4.5 Months Old. I Have A 38 Gallon Tall Tank. I Purchased New A 130 Watt Orbit Compact Florescence Light, A Rena Sp2 Fillstar Canister Filter And A Red Sea Prizm Skimmer. I Have 15 Hermit Crabs And 5 Turban Snails. I Have 4 Pulsating Zennia, 4 Different Color Mushrooms And One Zoo. I Had A Yellow Polop But It Seems To Have Died, I Was Told This Is The Easiest To Have.
I Have About 4" Of Sand With 25 Pounds Of Live Rock And 15 Pounds Of Flat Rock. I Only Have On Fish And This Is A Rabbit Bought Last Week, Was Told It Would Eat The Hair Algae. I Cycled My Tank With Mollies And Then Added A Lavender Tang, Got The Ick And They All Died, That Was 7 Weeks Ago. I Waited 6 Weeks Before Buying The Rabbit Fish Hoping The Ick Is Gone. I Have Not Been Feeding At All During This Time, Nothing To Feed.
I Tested My Water Tonight And All Is Good. No Nitrates Or Nitrites, Ph Is 8.4 My Alkalinty Is Over 300. I Use B-ionic Calcium Buffer Each Day And This May Be The Reason The Alkalinity Is High, I Do Not Know. I Tested For Phosphates And That Is Good Also.
I Do Water Changes Every 2 Weeks And Also Buy My Water At The Fish Store Already Made Up. I Also Buy The Ro Water At The Same Fish Store To Top The Tank Off.
I Have A Problem With Rust Looking Things All Over My Rocks And Glass, They Are Easy To Blow Off With The Turkey Baster But Come Back Overnight. I Also Have Egg Looking Things On My Back Glass. They Are Somewhat Hard And Almost Look Jelly Like.
Hope With This Info You Can Get My On The Right Track. I Live In A Rural Area And No One Seems To Know Much About Salt Water Tanks.
Thanks
