Your regular sand will eventually tun into LS as time goes on. You could add a small amount of LS to it (I've seen small 2 lb bags in the lfs or get some Grunge from
Geothermal Aquaculture Research Foundation Home Page. It has all sorts of live things in it. I would put that under a top layer of sand since it can be not too good looking.
