I would say it depends on how many gph your returns are and what you want in your tank. Each EcoTech can move 300 - 3000 gph. I have a total of 8000 gph on my tank which is 33x. If you want 30x flow you will need about 9000 gph, or 3 EcoTechs if you have no other flow. Your returns should be 2000 - 3000 gph...
I'm not sure about the wireless controller, I dont have one, probably wont get one until I have various corals.
I've had mine several months, and no problems at all. They need a few days to break in, a little noisy at first but now very quiet.
