Need help raising calcium level...... Ok, I am looking for somebody willing to help me with this task. I REALLY need to get my calcium level up. It is sitting at 200 right now and I'm am trying to gradually raise it to 420. I have been using Kent Marine Tech CB 2 part additive. Current water parameters are:
PH: 8.2
ALK: 4.5 meq/l
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 0
I have used the online Reef Chemistry calculator, & the Net Tank Volume calculator. According to this my 80 ga. Bowfront tank has a net water volume of 66.7 ga.
I used the reef chemistry calculator to determine the amount of product needed to raise my calcium level from 200 to 420. I am now debating on the safest way to raise the CA level, as the LFS has totally freaked me out with talk of CA precipitation killing my whole tank. I have looked at a couple of products and am interested in sticking w/ the Kent Tech CB 2 part. However, Kent Turbo Calcium would raise the level much easier. I am also looking at Seachem Reef Complete additive. Any suggestions here? I want to raise the level slowly, but don't want to take a year to get the level up! I'm just looking to see a slow, gradual increase in the CA level. As long as my Alkalinity stays in range 4 -6 meq/l, I can simply add the calcium part only correct? If my Alkalinity starts to fall, I will need to use the DKH buffer to raise the alkalinity, correct? I have been reading through several articles on this and am understanding that as long as I keep my alkalinity in range, then my PH should stay put. If my alkalinity raises or falls, the PH will spike or fall. I am willing to work with somebody via PM on this, but I want to do it the right way. I have been supplementing Tech CB 2 part and the Calcium Level just stays at 200 which is frustrating. I think I need to get more aggressive dosing the CA, but don't want to do to much and cause precipitation to occur. What product should I use to increase the calcium level, and what is the safest way of doing this? A little more info on the corals currently in the tank:
1 Candy Cane Coral
1 Mushroom
1 Yellow Colony Polyps
1 Short Tentacle Plate Coral
1 Devil's Hand Leather
1 Starburst Polyp
Corals are all looking good, but aren't going to grow until I get the CA level up. Any help, or anyone willing to work with me on this is extremely appreciated. |
