Yeah, the sand sifting gobies will eat the organisms from the sand, but should also be fed other foods.
As I am in the process of setting up my seagrass tank I have also been doign a lot of research on sand. I feel as though a 50/50 mix would be best for your money and for the sand bed. Make sure that the live sane goes on top of the "dry" sand.
