Default Powerhead question?????????

Hi All,
I have a 30 gallon oceanic cube aquarium. The fish inventory includes coral beauty, firefish, orange spotted goby, black and white strip dotty back and a emerald crab, cleaner shrimp, sand sifting star fish, 2 scarlet hermit crabs and 2 large turbo snails. I have and emperor 400 filter which says it moves 400 gallons and hour??? I just bought an emperor power head 1140 which moves 300 gallons an hour? The filter is on the back of the tank with the 24 lbs. of live rock. I placed the power head on the front glass and have it angled downward towards the live rock. Is that okay or do i have to much water circulating and should just go with the emperor 400?? Was thinking of going with a smaller HOB filter once i got to the 30 lb. mark of live rock and then move the power head then. Am i okay with the early addition of the power head and is it okay facing directly toward the live rock???

Thanks,
Java
