I think you need to plan what type of corals you want to keep. Most start off with softies and lps...then graduate to sps. Of course you'll need lr and ls, sump, and a good skimmer. Checkout craiglist for good deals.
I don't know what type of lighting you have, but I would highly recommend T5's. I have a aquatinics TX5 (5x54 watt) over my 75 gal.

Scotslights.com for some score deals on slightly blemished tek & aquatinic fixtures. I think a similiar setup like mine in a 36" would be plenty.
Anemones do not have to be in a reef tank only, but do require good light/flow to survive.
My avatar has a pic' of a rbta I've had for over 1 1/2 years. It was 3" when I got it from a fellow hobbyist and has split 5 times !
