Brown Algae problem, please help I have brown algae problem. Did have hair algae, but fixed that.
I set this tank up in Christmas break of 07 this year.
I feel the brown algae is preventing nice algae growth
Here is my set up...
-22g Oceanic Cube.
-150w 14k Halide light, on from 10 am - 5 pm.
-BakPak Protein skimmer, colecting nice brown dry skim.
-10-13 hermit crabs of mixed kinds.
-Newly added (today) 9-10 snails, 8 astreas and two other.
-Three emerald crabs (one small, and two medium/small)
-maybe too much rubble rock, but a good amount.
-Live rock, about 45 lbs. maybe 50.
Nice water flow, a nano Korolien and the BakPak protein skimmer.
-Temp from 78-80.
-3 Chromis, very happy and growing.
-Small mushrooms on one rock with some feather dusters as well, also small.
-And newly placed in Zooantheds, again on a small rock.
-Phosphate at 0.2, I added SeaChems phosguard today in the skimmer and will see how that works out.
-Nitrite, Amonia, and Nitrates are fine, Nitrate almost nothing.
-Water looks clear...
-Feed twice a day small amounts.
-Glass top
-nice ripples at top with some bubbles as well.
-Rock is placed so water flow travels around and then through the rock and from top to bottom then back up. So I have good flow.
-Dry aragonite (I think grain is a tiny bit big, bit not huge. It is sand. And brown algae growing on rocks and sand.
-Reef crystals.
-Distilled water.
Water changes, did 10g past two weeks, and currently plan on now doing 5g every week. I use distilled water only.
What recommendations would you make? I hate this and had it for a while now. Anything you notice right away? I hope to eventually get some nice corals in here, remove the chromis, add two ocelaris (black) an anemone and maybe a goby or something.
I have pictures, will post them tomorrow night.
