I actually have 2 percs too, only see one in the pic though.
I also use a hang on back filter, it's a penguin setup rated for I believe same as yours, 30-50 gallon. Works just fine for me, keeps the tank clean and in check. I do water changes every 2 weeks and change the filter then as well.
