Re: $300 Dead!! Help!!!! A recent discovery with Ich is it also affects INVERTS too. Which explains why people can go months without fish and put a new fish in and it gets ich. If you have any inverts that are segmented such as shrimp or crabs, toss them, they are carriers of ich.
Garlic Extreme kills free swimming Ich and helps keep secondary bacteria infection down HOWEVER it does not kill EGGS. Eggs can take anywhere from 4-10 days to hatch. If you raise your tank temp, only thing that does is speed up the life cycle, it DOES NOT kill it.
Quit throwing money down the drain and buy a Molly(they are brackish fish). Mollies are easily converted to saltwater, perfect starter fish simply becuase you can buy 6 babies for a dollar(here you can anyways). They are slow swimmers so once you know it survived for atleast a month to 6 weeks without any problems, then go for something else more expensive.
As for Tangs, IMO they should be the VERY LAST fish introduced to an aquarium because they are extremely territorial and often kill new tank mates. Powder blues and Yellow tangs are notorious for this.
Ive been doing this for longer then most people on this board and help a few members out on here on a regular basis consulting. I am also a coral farmer. As for fish and coral diseases and parasites, I've seen and dealt with just about all of them and only lost a battle with dinoflagelettes because I was treating for the wrong thing and when I learned it was dino's, it was too late.
