the light could be a normal 13 watt strip flourecent light for cheto

for substrate you should put around 2 inches or so or more of Miricle Mud by

Ecosystem Aquarium Miracle Mud The first and still the best

just look for a dealer and becarful when putting it in so it dosent make a mess.

for critters thell appear overtime so none and you should have a timmer on the light to prevent algae same with your main light)

just have your main tank lights on for around 6-7 hours when your home ( set this on a timmer of course) and your refugium should be the same or if it dose not bother you have it on a reverse light schedule.
