Ammonia 101 -
Ammonia is a gas but it mixes very readily with water. So well in fact that the accepted method of dealing with an ammonia leak is a water fog on the vapor.

I work in an ammonia chemical plant and keep a nano in my office. Ammonia and nitrites are zero, nitrates stable at 10-15 ppm. Dissolved oxygen is always good and I too have bubbles in the sand and popping out of the rocks.
