Re: Clown finally decided to host Demon, I appologise for the firmness of my last post.
All I can say is that having owned the animal in question for over 7 months, there is NO doubt in my mind that it is a Long Tentacle Anemone.
This nem has had a fairly rough capitve life, I bought it from a lfs that had it in a tank with inadequate lighting. When I brought it home it attached to my bottom glass through my sand bed and appeared happy for a couple weeks, then it detatched one day and managed to find a powerhead before I knew it was loose. After that it mostly floated around the tank unattached, with a couple of times that it looked like it had found a spot but then let go when certain powerheads were turned back on. It managed to get into one of my powerheads 2more times. During this time it bleached out almost totally despite my efforts find a place it was happy.
About February this year it had shrunk down to about the size of my thumb, then it totally disappeared. I believed it had died and bought the carpet to replace it at the beginning of May. A couple weeks after the carpet was purchased the LTA reappeared in its current spot.
Two months of frequent feedings and good lighting have quadrupled its size, and it is gaining more color almost daily. The first picture of it in this post was from a month after it reappeared and about a month ago. The anemone has always had visible verracue on its upper column, the foot was initially a bright pink, but since it was bleached out when it was wandering the foot is a faded pinkish tan. When it first reappeared in early May the tentacles were about a half inch fully extended, now they are close to two inches, and the oral disc was an inch and a half or so and is now over 4inches.
The body has colored up nicely to a fairly dark brown, and its gaining more and more of a green sheen as it gets healthier.
The anemone's choice of a spot in the rockwork to attach to is somewhat unusual for a LTA, but the rock it is on has a lot of gaps and tunnels and the foot actually extends a couple inches into the rock.
