Default Mixed Clowns!!

As I was breaking down my frag tank which housed a smaller maroon and white clown I decided to float the bag in the DT which is home to a Ocellaris. They both seemed rather curious of eachother so I figured why not give them a try to get along.

So far a little mouthing by the ocellaris is all and they seem to be acting as big brother little brother. The maroon follows the Oci around and the Oci doesnt seem to mind one bit.

My own word of caution will be heeded by not letting them get aggresive before he is pulled out. So far so good.

Day 2.... The introduction of the maroon seems to have brought a balance to the tank. The midas and the oci had been palling around and semi bullying the dottyback...now the dottyback and the maroon are somewhat buddies and each seem so far to keep to themselves. Pretty cool to see them interact.

Im not sure if this would be the first sign of bad things happening but has anyone seen a fishes tail fin split? There is no nip or bite marks out of it and they still seem to be getting along but there is a slit right down the middle. He is swimming okay and everything looks fine other than that. Any thoughts?

I ordered my pump for a CPR Bak Pak 2 should be in this week. I will still run the HOB for extra adjustable flow and Im thinking of running live rock in the chambers with a filter screen for larger particulates. ... Im not going to run a sump till I go up in tank size. No real reason honestly for me to spend the time and money on something that will be replaced in a little while.

true true hosser man you will see a big difference when that skimmer comes in so thats cool but as for the HOB filter you have well if you insist on keeping it then why not run carbon, purigen, or phosban in it i dont think a small amount like that in a HOB filter of live rock will make a big difference. ( i run purigen )

I actually trying to get away from anything other than biological filtration other than the skimmer. The filter will hold a ton of rubble rock and with the screen it will be easy to clean and access

carbon don't affect the water at all. it's very beneficial. Just make sure you rinse it before you use it.

The HOB filter is gone in favor of a skimmer and carbon filter only runs on my frag/plant tank at the moment. I never had a single issue with water quality with a HOB cheapo whisper filter. I have no issues with using a mechanical filter but they arent needed and cause more problems when not kept up on then just having a good working biological system in place.

Yeah this hobby can be fairly simple if done right. All the maintenance and upkeed isnt as bad as its made out to be with biological which is why I went away from the power filter. But hey this hobby is full of " it worked for me" so hard fast rules dont mean too much haha
