Default What Is The Normal Length Of Time For An Anenome To Split

We got a new Rose Anenome and it started to split the day after we got it. It is not very large although it looked larger when we got it that it does now. This has been 3.5 weeks ago. It has split up to the mouth and continues to contort itself and gets bigger and smaller off and on. It was on the bottom for most of the time but day before yesterday moved to the glass.
Does it normally take this much time for them to split? The LFS said that it can take that long.
Is there a correlation between Anenomes and Actinic light?

Default Re: What Is The Normal Length Of Time For An Anenome To Split

Usually, an anemone splitting happens over a very short time frame, like a single night or possibly a couple days. 3 1/2 weeks is much longer than normal, but that doesn't necessarily mean that anything is wrong. Try feeding it 1/2 a silverside every other day for a few days and see if that gets it to complete the split.

As for anemones and actinic lighting, actinic lighting has no known benefit for anemones health, although it might help with certain reproduction aspects.
