Default Yellow Banded Maroon V. Black and White Percula Clownfish

I want to get a pair of mated Clowns. Either Yellow banded Maroons or Black and White Perculas. Any ideas or opinions on which is a better choice? Thanks!

I personally like the black and whites better but you will have better luck at finding the maroon gold striped in a pair.

Black and whites are easier to pair but if you decide to get maroons, make sure you get a large one first and then much smaller one later. The bigger more domant female will not feel threatened by the later added smaller male therefore eliminating the inevitable fight to the death. these are my black percs. Those spots are on the glass, not on the fish

Maroons are the most aggressive of the Clownfish. I've been bitten several times by the female (pinched a bit), especially after she's laid eggs.

Sometimes you can find mated pairs online at LiveAquaria, Pacific East and Blue Zoo.

My own preferance is to get juveniles from tank raised fishes. I got 3 Maroons as 1" juvies. They grew up and sorted themselves out. One became the dominate female, one the dominant male and one the sub-dominant male. They live together in their BTA. That's them in my avatar. It's kind of interesting, but I later learned that this was not supposed to happen with this species in captivity. Well, they didn't know that! The female has laid 3 clutches of eggs in the past 6 month, though none survived being eaten by the rest of the crew in my DT.
