Default I have a suicidal clown.

He's made it into the overflow box twice in a few days and this morning I came out to find him up against the overflow box guard, water splashing on him. He was stuck. I thought for sure he was dead. I pulled him out and he's fine, just was stuck in the shape of a "C" for a while.

Anyway, I've pushed the guard down so he can't actually SWIM INTO the box anymore, but how do I stop him from getting sucked against the guard and gettign stuck?! It happens at night. I'm wondering if a moon light will help prevent that?

Any suggestions?

hey i had the same exact problem with one of my true perks, he jumped into the overflow twice, and at night he just laid agains the overflow he was a little bigger and couldn't get sucked in, but i think they like how it feels, i have an open tank no glass on top trying to keep the temp below 81, any ways buy a small portion of mesh netting and epoxy it to the back of the overflow so you can't see it. this will keep him from getting sucked in. You can pick up the epoxy at your LFS.

Sounds like your fish has some sort of depression, Maybe you could get the little fella some phsychiatric help? NAh just kidding.. wow yea.. are your tank readings okay? Has the fish ALWAYS acted this way? Maybe this is his way of telling\showing you that there is a change in the tank that he doesnt appreciate? Is this normal fish behavior?

My friends clown will jump out of the tank when he opens it and puts his hand near the water, but I think he is actually protecting his anenome.

However I pulled more than one fish out of the overflow box in my old tank and there are covers available for them check your lfs. I have also heard that fish will jump out of the tank when the water quality is low...have you tested your water recently? When the temp is high it can change fast, including the salinity. How many/what kind of other fish are in there??? Perhaps someone is picking on him.

Another bottom sleeper here, in a very quiet, low flow area. Since he buffeted his anemone to death, he made friends to a serpent star and feeds it during the day and sleeps close to it at night. I would think they like holes, crevices, and hiding places, if no anemone to hide in.... Wondering if he is still among us or if he ended it all...
