Default MY Maroon Clown, is this normal?

I just bought a gold strip maroon clown yesterday, he seemed fine when he was let loose, and he explored all over, i have a 3' lunar wrasse and 2 small damsels in the tank with him, and they seem to be a little frightened of him, i guess because he is new! but all he's been doing all day is swimming back and forth at the very top of the aquarium? is this normal? or is this his territory now?

You can't call anything that a clown does as being "normal" since they all have their own personality, but yes, they like to find an area and claim it as their own so that could be the area it picked or got pushed to. Otherwise, fish can act that way if the water has a low oxygen level or the fish has ammonia shock/poisoning.

It also depends what damsels they are and size in relation to the maroon. But again clowns do have thier own personality, especially maroons.I put my 1" maroon in about 6 months ago and all he did was swim in circles around the top of the tank with powerhead current. But abot 1 month later he decided to inhabit a bubble tip anemone i have, been there ever since.I also have a long tentacle but they prefer bubble tips.Suggestion get rid of the damsels. If they were there first it will always be theyre territory, especially in 40 gal.

Could be normal. When you feed, does it eat? Breathing heavy?

Maroons are quite the bullies. I can understand if other fish might be a little frightened.

he seems fine now, i guess he was just having fun back and forth at the top of the tank! thanks for all your help!!
the damsels are smaller than the clown, (blue yellow tail and a stripe one) and seem to be afraid of him! hes not aggressive at all, he seems so relaxed when he swims everywhere! and the damsels are all jumpy around him anyway!
i am also considering a bubble anemone, and a blue lankia star would those be good additions?
