Icon14 hiding anemone

I have a 150 gallon tank, 175 lbs of live rock, and 384 watts of light. I just got a brown long tail anemone. After drip acclamation, it took its place in the back of the tank under a shelf rock. I have it about a week and I had to search for it tonight. It has taken home deeper into the rock. I also have 2 power heads (380 each) for flow. I have been feeding it frozen brine by hand. It has taken the food and my 2 shrimp are always hanging around during feeding time. There is 1 clown, 1 goby, 1 yellow face angle, 1 pink waress, 1 green tang, 1 blue tang, 1 hippo and a bunch of snails and crabs.

I am concerned about the anemone taking place do deep into the rock. Is this normal? I tried to take a photo but you can not see since it blends in with the rock so well.

I tried to rearrange the rock so the anemone would be able to be seen but that did not work.

Any ideas?

Ken

I think you mean a Long Tentacle Anemone (LTA). Anemones can be secretive and take weeks to months to fully adjust to a new environment. Most like to find a spot deep within the crevices of rocks or a deep (4+") sandbed to bury their foot and column. This gives them a sense of security and a place to withdraw when threatened or resting. LTA's like a lot of light, about 4-5 watts/gal. Make sure your water parameters are near perfect.

It's a good sign that it's feeding. The shrimp hang around to clean up the detrius that it "spits" back out after eating. Has your clown hosted yet? That may help it come out.

What type of lighting do you have? I have 500W MH over my 75 gallon tank and my bubble tip loves it!

I use the Nova Xtreme T-5 8X54 watt (4 6K and 4 Actinic) and mine is also very happy. It's doubled, almost tripled in size since I got it.
