Default Anemone transformation. Bad?

So, I've had him for a little over a month. He moved around the tank in the begining but has seemed to like this spot as he has been there for almost 3 weeks. I feed him frozen mysis about every 3 days. His apperance has changed. I hear if they are white thats not a good thing. Pics are day 1, day 15, day 35. Do they normally change shape/ color like this?

i had a LTA for many many months. that anenome couldnt make up his mind where to stay to save his life. one day he would be all curled up, very small, the next day it would be HUGE,(that was the day i saw my blue hippo inside his stomach!!!! grrrrr!) it changed shape so often i couldnt keep up. unfortunately, one day it decided to curl up inside the live rock and it got smaller and smaller until one day it looked like a small piece of sushi, and then it was gone. so sad.

but from your pics...your anenome looks very nice. is your tank really only a month old like your side profile says or have you been up and running longer?

Tank was started 12/3/07...so it's still young. I've been one of the lucky ones, all water parameters have been great. I cycled very fast and within 1 month I had hundreds of pods crawling on my glass. I felt my tank was doing pretty good so I added the anemone, also have a maroon cown, green chromis, cleaner shrimp, and mandarin. I'm trying to figure out how to breed pods or brime shrimp for him. Nitates, after initial cycle, have been undetectable (I use low range test kit). I did start with lots of live rock and live sand, so I think that's a big part of the health of my tank. But who knows, it could all crash tomorrow.

sounds like you should be playing roulette in las vegas..cuz you are one lucky girl. i am jealous...i never see any pods on my glass or swimming around, even at night. i have alot of the potato bug pods that are on the glass in the gravel but thats it. i think i might have seen 1 on my carbon filter cartridge the other day when i was cleaning. some girls have all the luck. like i said though...nice anenome...mine was plain old white, liked it at first but after a while, you really do wish it had some color to it. my maroon clown loved that anenome to death. he is so lost right now without it. do they make cheap fake anenomes?

Just to let you know i wish you good luck with the mandarin. Most places and people say you need something over 100 gallons in order to keep them alive. They are constantly "grazing" for pods and a small tank just cant supply what is needed. If you plan on keeping it you may want to look into a refugium, either sump or hang on. Just a word of caution though, they are picky eaters.

That is a condylactis anemone...almost positive of it. Second, adding stuff wayyyy too fast...mandarins should at the very least be put in a tank of 75 gallons after a time of no less than a year, even at that time they may not even have enough food. They're like sand sifting starfish, they spend their entire day grazing for food and once it runs out they starve. Take it slow, "Rome wasn't built in a day, neither is a reef"
