Default carpet anenome??

i was at my LFS picking up some saltwater and super worms-ONLY...when my 6 year old son and sis in law came walking in and wanted to buy me a fish because i havent been able to buy anything for my tank in the last 4 months cuz we are broke. i ended up picking out a carpet anenome..question is this..

will my maroon clown take to it? its only been in the tank since last night..was hard to get the anenome in there...it wouldnt let go of my hand...very very sticky. it immediately made its way up my live rock and is just perched near the top. i feed the fish some brine shrimp and it was grabbing anything it could.

Your clown should take to the carpet,

Here is a chart that is helpful for what clowns take to what anems. Hope it helps!

They are considered fairly hard to care for. Also, I have read stories of people touching them and getting reactions. They are on of the only anemones where the "stingers" can penetrate the human skin, so be careful of that!

But, as Stace said, your clown should enjoy it quite a bit.

Take some pics, we all love pics

hey stace...i was looking at that chart...where's the legend at...does a light green square show the relationship or is it the light yellow colored ones...because looking at the chart shows the "Premnas biaculeatus" which if i am correct is the scientific name for a maroon clownfish and the boxes for it are yellow under carpet anenome? thanks for the chart though...

Is that carpet going into a 29 gal tank with that list of fish?

Carpet is an incredible animal. Good luck! PLEASE keep us informed how it goes!

What type of carpet is it ? Can you post a pic ?

Depending on the carpet, they can easily reach a couple of feet in a tank !

You did'nt mention what type of lighting you have. Most anemones need strong lighting.

I had a merten's carpet and they truly are beautiful creatures. You can feed them silversides or small chunks of raw shrimp a couple times a week.

Becareful with that anemone b/c they will eat small fish !

i'll post pictures of the carpet anemone later today, he is greenish yellow in color i think. do you think he'll be ok in my 29 gallon bio cube with the stock lighting? 1 – Coralife 10,000K 36Watt Compact Fluorescent lamps • 1 – Coralife Actinic 36Watt Compact Fluorescent lamps • 3 – ¾ Watt Lunar Blue, Moon Glow LED lights •

as soon as i placed him into my tank he pretty much immediately made his way up to the very highest rock in the tank near the surface and has only moved a couple inches in either direction since. i am gonna try and get me a turkey baster later(cant believe we dont have one..what kind of home doesnt have a turkey baster??) and spot feed him. we shall see.

pics to follow later today.

i wish my maroon clown had taken to this carpet anenome...maybe he only likes LTA's...thats what i had before and he took to it within minutes. my clown hasnt gone near it in over 3 weeks. oh well, just another reason to maybe grab another small LTA.

i can not believe how sticky carpet anenomes are....holy cudda!!! i'll feed it by hand, maybe a piece of krill, i brushed up against it and i nearly pulled it outta the tank...i could probably tie a rope around it and throw it at a 2nd story window and repel up the wall...if they got huge enough, it could smother a small child!!

Try the live brine shrimp and garlic extract trick. Shoot some near the anemone over a few days and hopefully your clown will find a new home !

how does the live brine shrimp and garlic work to bring the clown over? is it just the fact that there is food nearby the anenome and the clown might bump into it and get aquainted? my LFS just started selling live brine shrimp. whats the life span of a brine shrimp? if you dump a bag into the tank and they all arent eating, what does the shrimp do, hang out by the pool sipping pina coladas??? it wont multiply will it?

Live brine shrimp and garlic are to entice your clowns to associate your anemone with food. You can enrich the brine shrimp with selcon and vitachem and it should last you 2-3 days.

Don't dump the water with the brine shrimp !!! Buy a brine shrimp net and scoop them out...then rinse with r/o and place in tank near anemone.

No they won't multiply...the clowns should go nuts after them.

why cant you dump the water from the brine shrimp bag into the tank? besides the fact that it is foreign water that could have some disease in it, or is that pretty much the reason?
