Icon14 bt and clown

First how do I know if I have true clowns or false perculas? The clown fish I have I thought were beginning to host my bubble tip that I've had for 2months it was beautiful then the clowns decided to start picking at her literally tearing her apart???? What does this mean will they kill it? Have tried to move bt but it goes where it wants, which right now is in the back of the tank behind the rocks where its kinda dark.

Thanks for any information.
Dawn

Well, if you look at this chart

http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/marin...mbioticMap.htm

it looks like both the False Percula and the Percula do not host in BTA's. It really pays to check out which anemone will host which clown. I can't explain the behavior of "ripping your anemone to shreds," but you have two choices, remove the anemone or remove the clowns.

As to telling the difference between the two species of clowns, I can't help you there either. I've stuck with Tomato and Maroon clowns. Both species do host in BTA's. Be aware that Maroons, though very hardy and beautiful, are THE most aggressive of the clowns. I've been bitten by my female (about 5") and she's drawn blood!!!!

I have false perc's that do host in rbta's. Nipping at tentacles are normal, but tearing apart is not.

How big is the bt ? It should be atleast 3 times the of your fish.

A pic would help.

I guess it's like bumblebees not knowing that they're not supposed to be able to fly.

FWIW In Joyce Wilkerson's book Clownfishes she states that.
"In captivity (but not in nature) it also hosts: A. ocellaris, Ocellaris or False Percula Clownfish." refering to E. quadricolor.

With all due respect to Ms. Wilkerson, clowns will do what they want, when they want.

I purchased Green BTA several months ago along with a true perc. They were both placed in my 180 gallon at the same time. I am guessing the clown was tank raised as it took him over two months to discover the anemone could be his friend. They are now inseparable.

I recently purchased a Rose BTA and a pink skunk. I had the store place both of them in the same bag along with a small piece of LR. By the time I arrived home, the BTA had attached to the rock and the skunk was in the anemone. In fact, after drip acclamation, I was able to, all the same time, put the whole group into my tank on the side opposite the Green. Unfortunately, without thinking, I placed the new LR next to a large rock that is part of an arch formation. This morning, the Rose had moved to the underside of the arch. This apparently did not please the skunk who is now hosting in a large Heliofungia.

You just never know.

I originally tried to get picasso clowns.Very beautiful! I'm still looking for snowflake clowns if you here of any. Are the barless just severe misbarred or are they a different species all together?

Sounds like severe misbars. I have seen them and I think they look pretty cool! I had a large hatch of oscellaris on Sat. and I was unable to obtain a good culture of rotifers. My culture crashed on Wed., I ordered more on Thurs., got them Fri., and being of low density, they crashed on Sat. My clownfish all survived the first night with very little food. The next two days I fed them otohime (rotifer weaning diet) and today (Tues) got more rotifers. The majority made it! My mandarin babies are doing better than expected. They're almost big enough to start eating rotifers. I've taken some video of each, but haven't gotten around to posting them yet. The adult mandarins are surprisingly eating ORA Glo pellets!!! I'm going to check out Cquest. Send me some cardinal pics. Do you still have the baby Bangaii?
