Quarantine is Serious Stuff!

I post on a few other salt water forums and ran across this today. Please put your self in this persons shoes and how he feels. Then tell me QT fish and corals is not necessary. Here is what was posted on another site:

"--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A lot of the diseases and parasites getting around has a lot to do with people not realizing they have them, and then pass them off to other people. Those other people think they are getting healthy corals and then they get it, and so on and so fourth until somebody dips something and catches and then nobody has a clue where it came from.

Like Tangy said, dipping does not kill eggs, you have to quarantine all corals and fish, and dip them 2 more times while in a QT. Its better to be extremely cautious then it is to have your display infested. I no longer have a display as a result."

This person has been in the hobby for years and could not help his tank as things went down hill too fast.

The silver lining to all this is the PM this person sent me soon after I responded to his loss:

One of those that helped me out back when all of that happened, has gone above and beyond any expectations of "Ill give ya some frags of mine to help ya out"(quote from him). That guy is truck driver from TX who comes through here 3 times a week and every few weeks he'd call me up and ask if I wanted to meet him for lunch or something as he was passing through, and everytime he had a cooler for me packed full of corals, not just frags. Never wanted anything in return other then friendship. We both keep odd hours and as a result, we've become good friends.

What great attitudes from both parties involved!

Premium Memberships

I would like to encourage all who use RB as a mainstay for information on saltwater to please consider a Premium Membership. It costs money to run the site and premium memberships are a small number at this point for no apparent reason. A mere $24 a year helps Ryan maintain the site. One awesome deal IMO.

If you would like to donate more to the site PM me or Ryan and arrangements will be made.
