Dying fish

I am having a major problem with fish dyeing. Let me start off with tank info. 150 gallon tank, 180 lbs of live rock, 3 inch sand and crush coral base, bio ball filter system, 2 Korallia 860 GPM power heads, Protein Skimmer, and heater. 2 clown fish, 1 fire fish, 1 yellow faced angel, 1 Whip Pink Fairy Wrasse, 1 Chimos, 1 Hipo, 2 cleaner Shrimp, 20 blue hermit and 10 snails, 1 Foxface Tang, Star Fish (cleaner), 1 unicorn Tang, 1 yellow eye tang, 1 Neon Dotty Back and 1 trumpet coral....

150 gallon

I have my tank up and running, see attached photo. I am not too please with aquascaping. I heard it is not good to place the live rock close the back of the tank, yet I see a lot tanks with it right against the glass in the back. It would seem to me that would make it difficult to find a missing (dead one) since they like to hide.

I have my power heads opposite each other about halfway down the side walls.

I want to do this right, so please any suggestions would...

live rock or bio bio balls

I am getting confused about bios balls vs. live rock. I have a 150 gallon tank, cycling is complete. I have about 125 lbs of live rock and 2" of live sand. We place 1 firefish, 1 damsel, 1 pink wrasse and 1 sweet lip. My son also got a chocolate chip star fish, which is going back for I hear they are too aggressive.

I am also purchasing an RO/DI water filter system and will make my own salt water for changes.

I am concerned about the bioballs. I have been...
