| I was just at PetSmart and Tropical Fish Hobbyist for June 2007 has cephalopods as the cover story. Says that you might be able to sweet talk your LFS into getting one for you. There are a bunch of other options as well. The mag also suggests checking out TONMO.com: The Octopus News Magazine Online. |

| hey- I am trying so hard to find this octopus I saw online, but now I can't find it. AND I don't know where to begin to look for one to purchase. Please someone let me know. When I find the picture again I will email it to anyone, or can I post it here as a guide to tell me what to ask for? - thanks

| One bite from a blue ring octopus has enough venom to kill 28 people. Ill find the article that I read that from and post it.

| Question: the 'green' octopus vs the 'brown' octopus---what do you ask for when you go to the lfs so you know what you're getting is what you are wanting?

| Heres that link: Blue Ring Octopus. Dangers of the Great Barrier Reef I was wrong though its 26 not 28. Not that that makes any differnece if it bites just one person(you)!!!

| I bought a green one a few years ago at the lfs. It didn't try to escape, but turned out to be a disappointing purchase. It stayed hidden during the day and I never saw it; it only came out at night and ate every small fish and crab it could get it's arms on. Every day my tank was minus one inhabitant. Also, they don't have a very long life span which I turned out to be grateful for since it was cleaning me out, but you may want to check into it and consider before you make your purchase. They have a very sharp beak that they use to crack the shells of the crabs they eat and won't hesitate to bite you with(a fact I discovered one night while trying to rescue a royal gramma from it). They can also eject toxic ink into your tank if they become upset, poisoning your fish (another fact I discovered after being bitten and staying up half the night changing tank water). |

| MtFabel: Thanks for the link!! Cool to see the description next to the pictures- that is what I look for in books, too. Like to see the actual profile of the livestock I am interested in. Most definitely NOT EVER getting a Blue Ring though, I have a son and nieces/nephews. If anyone wanted to feed the fish- I want them to expeience the JOY of saltwater fish, not the danger! Thanks again. Have passed the link on to a friend-----who better strat posting soon! (hahahaha)

| Question: the ink. How bad is it? It is harmful to the tankmates? All tankmates including corals? And why exactly the water change? Wouldn't it go thru the filters? REMEMBER.....still new so no funny looks when reading this!!! ![]()

| WOW! The Blue Rings are very nice in their coloration when they show it off! Didn't know you could put 2 together- are they a mated pair? (and thanks for the reply!)

| The ink didn't look like that much when the octopus ejected it (just a little cloud of blue stuff), but about 20 minutes later all of my fish were turning pale and darting around the tank. A large water change is the best thing you can do if your tank has been poisoned, you don't have time to see if your filter is going to do the job before your fish die; you just need to dilute what is causing the problem as quickly as possible- that's the reason for the water change. The tank it was in was a FO (fish only) tank, so I don't know from personal experience how it would affect corals, but since corals are more demanding in water quality than most fish are, my guess would be that they wouldn't have survived it. |

Thank you ! That makes sense what you said about the corals being more sensitive. I'm kinda bummed because found out today that the LFS I ordered my sand thru hasn't even ordered it yet! >?????< "joedeb" and I were talking, and it may be the case of them working on a 'tight' budget since they are a smaller store. But she didn't mention to me that the size of the order would be a problem. I hope nothing else is like this, otherwise I don't feel I want to do business with them.*Granted, she can get my sand $5 cheaper than online, and without the s&h, but hey! I placed the order on the 18th!!! They are family owned so they just drive to their connection in Tampa to get it- my thought is if I knew where they went-I'd go myself! Sorry- off the topic, just needed to vent! ![]()
