Please someone tell me where to buy a baby dwarf octopus.
I saw a beautiful green/almost opalescence in color online, but now cant find it. Have been looking in all sorts of searches- not the least bit helpful.
I want to find out where to get a baby dwraf species, not toxic, so I can do research on THAT particular one, and build my tank around him.
ANY help here is appreciated- thanks!!

Careful when buying an octopus - they are escape artists. You'll need to seal up the top of the tank so it can't get out. Not sure where you can get one.

thanks- will definitely keep this in mind. BUT it is something that I have always truly wanted, so I am wanting to do more research on it so I can create the tank 'around' the octopus.

Hey there cela vie! Sad to say my "gung ho" attitude had to take a backseat to the tile in my home being laid.....BUT my husband "promises" to get it to me within the next week or 2. (my tank is at our friends house while we are laying tile) I have in the meantime been collecting what I can. I have started my supply of 180gals of r/o water. I have my salt, my pink samoa sand (but I will put 1 bag of live on the bottom, then my sand, then 1 bag of live sand on top to 'seed'. I also have been picking up my hydrometer, veggie clip,etc....all the 'fun' shopping. Going to our LFS with a friend from work every week to create our list---can't wait to post pictures!! Do you have a gallery? I still can't get my picture of my tank to load to RB. More to come---thanks for checking!!!!

"All things in good time" (or something like that). Tile is more important specially if it is going under the tank. lol

With respect to the 180 gallons of RO water, how much is that costing you? At $0.50 each you've got $90. Double that and you've got yourself an awesome RO/DI unit AND a hand-held tester. RO/DI water is better than just RO. With future water changes, the unit will pay for itself in a few months (maybe less). Just a thought in case no one ever mentioned it.

I have not updated it as the tank has only been running for less than twso month and it is easier to take pictures of a build than of the contents (fish and corals). I will probably be updating the thread this weekend.

Hey...thanks for the info...and yes, the 'reefers' here have mentioned the unit as well. I am getting the water just to be on the safe side, my husband is wanting the unit for future. So we will have both. Stupid to some maybe...but after talking to some of the LFS that we actually trust- I am happy with the bottled water. I will check out your thread- thanks for sending it!

Yes I am happy to say I have already thought of that. My son will be linking them together to make it easier to carry. We will actually be driving them to our recycle plant, thought that way the garbage truck isn't 'boggled' down!
And with the money that is recycled back into my pocket....that will be going towards my first purchase. hee hee.

Since your son will be linking them together, you should tie them to the back of the car and drag them on the way to the recycle center. Don't forget to get paint and write on the windows of the car: "Just filled the tank!" "Ocean Fantasy!!!" lol

Question to e_baer:
You list a reef (mixed) and a dwarf lion...... how does that work? Do you have inverts in your tank? Doesn't the lionfish pose a threat to them? I would like to add a lion to my "family o' fish" but have been told to leave it be...it would eat my shrimp, crabs, smaller fish, etc? What else do you have in your tank? Thanks!

I have 2 tanks. a 55 reef, and a 30 dwarf lion.


it would eat anything about 3/4 its size and smaller, or anyhting that can fit into its mouth. it definately would eat the shrimp, the only shrimp that would have a slight chance is the cleaner shrimp. probably not crabs or stars or snything of that nature.
not snails, or urchins, or feather dusters.

I would put the lion in the 55, but i am afraid it would be too much flow for the poor fellow. plus, the hassel of trying to catch him and having him poke me again isnt on my to do list.

I never really thought about it a lot. Anyone know if i would be able to add the lion into my 55? it does have a lot of flow.

that would make my 30 open, and i might be able to have a nicely sized fuge!

So is this really like a bad "bee-sting" ? Thats what the LFS said

yeah, it is sorta like a really bad bee sting. for my, i got stung on my middle finger, and my finger swelled up nice. there was a constant throbbing for a few hours and for about 30 minutes after the sting it was just awful.

they showed a doctor on animal planet that was cleaning his saltwater tank, wasn't paying attention and his lion fish got his finger. said it was the worst pain ever..he tried the old "put your hand into a bowl of hotter than hell water" to reduce the effects of the poison but they say that doesn't really work. they also showed a guy that got hit with a stingray barbed tail...a week later he was ooozing a fishy smelling liquid from his leg...BLAH!!!! they had to tear his leg apart and graft skin from everywhere on his body to rebuild it....looked like freddie krueger got ahold of him! i dont know why i just brought all this up but i bet it made good reading!

It sure did make a good read!

My friend got stung purposely on the middle finger, and it didnt bother him at all. I was so puzzled why he wasnt in agonizing pain. So as I was reading I found out that some people are immune to the venom so it doesnt affect them at all.
