Default Coral Frags

Im new to this hobby and was just wondering how hard coral fragging is and if my info is correct. Fragging is simply cutting off a limb of a coral and glueing it to another rock? The coral i am thinking of fragging is a yellow porities, that has become too large for my tank.

Hey Dan,
Fragging is not difficult. What is difficult is the process of fragging in other words fragging isnt hard on the corals you are. you can cut or some other method ie; pruning sheer.the desired frag from the mother just be careful not to beat the colony up as you take the frag. The other tip is to frag near the large portion or take an entire branch just like you would a tree in your yard. I would love to trade with you for something. I have many mushrooms and zoos, also lots of leathers.
Thanks,
Brett

Dan,
Fragging can be a little difficult as I found out when trying to frag a colt coral. It sends a mucous slime to reject the glue so after the glue sets, it slimes off. I lost 4 different frags in my tank, because they would not adhere. I found xenia do better self- propagating. I put a rock near by it, so it could climb up on it. Then I cut the old stem before it totally left the old site. The remaining plug at the old site started new growth. I had an easy time with yellow button polyps. They grow and self propagate rapidly. So I got them "dropping down" onto porous rock, then after a year, the rock was covered. Being so porous it was easy to devide it into frags. I tried to frag mushrooms and killed them. Benesh, what are your tips on mushrooms? Here is a site you may want to check out on propagation of certain corals. Just copy and paste into search engine.

Randy here! I have a question for you experienced frag people out there. I just bought a nice piece of green zooanthid that looks to me like it has been fraged. It has about 15 polyps on it with a small piece of live rock. I set this mid way in my tank on top of a live rock that has nothing on it. I am hopping that some will move onto that live rock. Now my question. I think I know the answer. that frg will not become part of the other live rock correct? So in essents I could reuse that frag correct?
Thanks Randy

I think Fraggin is easy, you just have to be creative with certain corals like the colt to make them attach, fishing line, tooth picks, wedding veil, super glue, aquamend, these are a fraggers best friend !!

if anyone has any tips on bubble corals i could use them. i have a small rock that has four bubbles growing and they are starting to get in each others way. i really don't know if i can relocate them or if i even want to risk it unless it is not too hard. thanks guys
