aleight so first thing you need are some mushroom corals!

second thing you need are the proper tools, which consist of a very sharp cutting object, tweezers, and some small plastic containers, and some bridal veil.
so you get one of the small containers and fill it with sand or small shells. i would suggest not sand becasue the shroom will not attatch the it that well.

then cut the shroom into a bucn of peices and male sure each peice has a little bit of the mouth on it.

Then get some of the veil and put ot over the container and secure it with a rubberband

then you can securely set it somewhere in the aquarium

for a toadstool leather coral, you need the exact same tools, except you also need a toadstool coral!
after that you get the sharp object and cut about 1/4 of the crown off, making sure you cut as little of the base off as possible. then place it into the small container.

put the net over the container, secire with rubberbadn and place in aquarium in a safe place.

Hope these pics help some of you. comment and make suggestions and post pics of the way your frag different things. soo, i will probably be posting pics of how to frag polyps.

great= i think im going to move everything over to my 29 gal bow front, it is already becoming a chore to regulate the temp in this small 12g cube, and then hopefully my mushrooms will have room to spread, those are the similar mushrooms to mine.

Elliot,Neat demonstration with photos... Where is the "safe place" in the aquarium, to put frags? It looked like you put the container under a powerhead? Dim lighting best? Did your mother toadstool shoot off alot of mucous after the cuttings? Did your toadstool cuttings grow stems on them?
My mother toadstool propagated herself, by bending over and sprouting a bud on the base of the stem near the attachment on the rock. She is such a beauty that I'm afraid of butchering her. although, your demonstration did give me a little courage.

I was just going to ask about this, as I wanted to be sure I knew what to do when my corals start to outgrow their areas. But I cant really see the corals based on your pics.

Next time you frag do you think you could show us removing the coral from the LR?

The safe place was in those containers, even in the most violent of waters, the plastic container blocks a lot of the flow. I just put the container whereever there was room. I didnt dim the lights at all, but I have heard you can do that.

Yep lots of muccus from the mother toadstool. Unfortunately the frags were lost due to water movement. I tried super glueing them, but it never held.

You really dont even need that big of a peice, and then the mother will regrow within a week or 2.

Good luck if you decide to frag, and put pics up too!

Yeah, as soon as my new light for my frag tank comes im gonna frag the heck out of my tank. Basically, to get the coral off the rock, you can use a razor blade and slice the stem of the coral. It doesnt need to be perfect, it will regrow. When I trimmed my red mushroom, I cut the base, and all that was left was a little bit of the foot of the coral on the rock. Well, now ___ months later, that little dinky foot grew into a large mushroom about 3.5" across.

I been wanting to do this for a long time, let me get this right..

I can cut the shroom off the rock? I can then cut the shroom like I would cut pizza? try to get some mouth on each piece? Then place in tank as shown, do the frags need to be seeded on little rock?

I have cut xenia and a colt with success but need to learn more on others such as shrooms..

that would be correct, as long as a piece of the mouth gets on the cutting, It should grow just fine.

Just super glue the frag to a rock, and it will grow.

I got all that stuff in the craft section of walmart. the cups things came in a pack of 3 or 4 for 2.99 or soemthing like that, and the veil was a wopping .59 cents for a square yard. It costs more in gas to go there.
