Default Coral Fragging

What does everybody do with thier corals as they grow? Trade them for others and smaller? Frag them and trade and sell the frags. Do you use other tanks than your display tank to grow your frags before selling or trading? Do you cut up the corals and dump what you dont want in the toilet? I dont see a good way of doing this without another tank just for frags.

How good are the mushrooms growing in the sump? What are you using for light? Are mushrooms the only thing you are currently fragging? The sump is where all maintanence for the main tank takes place for me. Chemicals and such. I wonder if the stuff I dose might hurt corals placed there?

I dose my main tank so I imagine it couldn't hurt too much...and mushrooms are the lower light maintenance corals.

depends on the coral, some are easy to frag some are not. You might also google to see if there is a local reef club, that you can trade buy and sell your corals and frags, local reef clubs are a great choice beyond your lfs.

I grow my corals out to a large size, then cut/frag them, I have a seperate 10 gallon grow out tank with a 2x40 10k Outer Orbit Light. You'd be shocked at how well things grow under the lil light. I've recieved 100's of dollars in credit at my LFS's over the past year, Literally 100's. I go in to the stores now and they say "Keith, you got any more corals for us"

Trading/selling among the local reef clubs works too !

well, I JUST got back from my LFS and asked them if they would take my purple pseudo and damsel. they replied, no it would take weeks for the fish to go thgrough quarentine. And I just said o Ok. but inside i was thinking "this place is retarted, they buy fish from other places all the time, and yet they wont take 2 fish. also their water conditions are already horrible! SG=1.017, and and there are anemones and stuff in the system too! they over price things buy a lot. thye priced a small feather duster at 20$! the store name is PRECIOUS PETS! NEVER EVER GO THERE! im sick and tired of that damn place!

there are only 3 in the entire us and they are all in NJ.

Jim,
I like trading them.

I traded recently with someone off this forum (jack Harding) for some computer help.

We have a local guy at a farmers market, who will buy from me at half the price he thinks he can get for it.
I sold him some cichlids, and other fresh water fish...he doesn't give cash, but store credit.....I may try some corals next...but I don't have the problem of overabundance yet...

I am all bummed out. I brought 2 frags of pulsing xenia and a rock of gsp to my lfs store in hopes of credit. There was no drip acclimation and the xenia just melted in their tank after three days and the gsp still won't open up. They use water fresh from Catalina. I think I trust mine more knowing about Ca. beaches. From now on, I think I will just advertise on craigslist.
