well thank you. Figured if I could find a bunch of info and stick it one place that It would be much easier to find

doesnt slow up my already slow pc with bookmarks either! If people read some of these articles they will realize there is a need to Frag and grow Coral's, not to drive down LFS prices but to help out with letting the natural coral reefs rebound, from what has been taken from the recent 15-20 years of the REEFING CRAZE!! bleaching, oil spills what ever may be harming the REEFS.

and if we get another person to trade frags with & start a prop tank that would be great!!

Yeah, the mroe peoepl the better!

If you really think about it, it does not cost too much to get a frag tank started. 30$ for a 20g long. 80$ for lights, 20$ for egg crate, 30$ for powerheads.

Hey John and Elliott! I might have a lead where we can buy some corals EXTREMELY reasonable. More so larger colonies of Zoas, Palys, SPS.

If you guys are up for some fragging maybe we could put a couple bucks in our pockets and get our tanks stocked up too!

I asked for a dozen Acros that I have to pick up about 4 hours from my house before Thanksgiving. I will let you know how it goes and IF what Im being told is true and I actually get the corals I will send some pics.

Be thinking Zoas, palys, shrooms. Easy to frag, good shippers and you can charge by the polyp. Also fit much more into those frag tanks. People like these things as well, especially if we can get some decent colors going out there.

I wouldnt want to put my kids thru college this way but it might be good way to get our tanks stocked for next to nothing. Of course there is work involved!

My reasons for doing this are: 1) Getting frags and corals for my own tank, 2) helping others get there tanks stocked and learn about the industry, 3) Promote aquaculture and responsible reefkeepping. In that order.

What are your reasons?

The only profit I would like to reap from this would be stocking my DT for next to nothing.

I spread out the perinals in my grandmothers yard for 2 reason makes yard look better and I can take cuttings from plants or starts either one, once my property is ready!! and it will be FREE!! yea I do flowers besides wouldnt a reef be the oceans natural flower bed?

I would like to do trades, with members or at swaps, I think that is the best way of getting more of whats out there at a much lower cost.

We are not going to save a reef or drive any LFS prices down we would have to be on the larger LFS scale, if we can get people to realize what little effort it takes to do this we Could have a nice little frag trading community!!!

John and Jim....I love this thread...Jim I haven't read your blog yet for your reasons why you want to frag but I'm assuming that it involves getting others started and helping keep the reefs in tact. John this thread will be instrumental to me when I get my tank and some corals ready to frag. I would love to trade with you guys and maybe not even charge for shipping. But I have a long ways to go before that happens but I'm always looking for good places to buy and then trade with people. Unfortunitly around me there aren't any frag trading shows that I know about and the LFS and his disciples aren't that keen on trading. Oh well more for me.

My main reason is to help save our natural coral reefs. 2: to make a little extra cash 3: Its fun!

I plan on having mostly shrooms zoas and polyps.

For frag plugs, I had an extra 20lbs of LR laying around, so i cruched that up into nice little peices for coral to grow on. Ill be ordering my light in....1 week and a half about.

I dont know about driving prices down either. Aqua cultured corals are more expensive than those harvested from the ocean but that is where we need to be headed.
Mark my words, If we as a saltwater community do not get a handle on the shrinking reefs, this hobby will shrivel up and only be available to the rich.

John the solution does rely on you and I and also the person you sell, trade or give frags to. What if all forums and clubs had a frag club within them? Now that would make a difference. Mariculture, Aquaculture. 2 terms to be familiar with

If all forums had a frag club within them that would drive down the need for harvest. If 10 active members here was to setup a tank, Take 5 colinies from there own tank take 2 frags off each of them. Thats 100 frags alone!!
