Icon6 DIY Frag Station In 90 Gallon

Heres a pic of the new frag station I just built for my 90 gallon. Total cost about $13.00crate plus wire ties (small). I have been wanting to start a small frag colony in my tank. so I built a beginners propagation system. This will hold about 25 -30 plugs if I went that route just less expensive using my rubble rock. I might want to sell or trade some. I have some xenia on some rubble on the tray for easy growth to other rubble. I have some atomic green zoos and some hot pink zoos. Some yellow polyps. and just started to frag my colt one piece first see how that goes for know. 530 watts of pc lights spot feeding with DTs phyto and I does with a 2 part B-Ionic. Let me know what everybody thinks. good bad? This was so easy to build took about 20 minutes to build. and one blister.

My zoos spread pretty quick about 3 -5 a month. The xenia is just some plain Ive been looking for some nice pulsing but $$$ and finding some in Atlanta. Spot feeding really helps the growth. all three xenia grown in a month...

Here are a couple updated pics since the last set. I just got some new corals from a fellow reefer off another site Atlanta Reef Club and I'm from Atlanta. The rest of the frags I have been doing myself (xenia, zoos, colt, ect)

ARC has a GREAT bunch of people there. Its possibly the largest club in the USA. William, Ive been hanging out with a couple guys there and cant even begin to tell you what Ive learned from them. There is some killer tanks in that club. The power buys are great and the speakers they have every other month are fantastic. Did you see we are getting the guy from Melvs reefs next month? Thats gonna be good too.

If you are interested...you go on vacation the club has people in areas all around town that are "tank sitters". People with some experience that will watch your tank while you are away. Also the club has individuals that take part in taking care of tanks for people that literally cannot do so for themselves because of health issues. You really want to feel great about reefing...this is a fantastic thing to take part in.

Brandon is a FANTASTIC president. A hard worker for the club and tremendous attitude. Brandon treats us all like we have 200 gal tanks!

Nice frag rack by the way.

We will have to hook up sometime.

Your not lying about everyone at ARC. I started to talk with them a few weeks ago and have already got hooked in. There knoledge base is very big and they seem to have alot going for themselfs. I couldnt believe that Victor gave me a bunch of corals for free. Like the montipora, purple digitata, frogspawn, zoas. Im gonna figure out something I can do for him.

Coming along nicely William; I'm envious! Couple questions:

1. What are the advantages of a frag station?
2. What kind of lights are you running (this is a 90, right)?

Its a 90 gallon tank with 2 265 watt pc lights. about 530 total wattts. As for the frag station I built, Its nice to have all the frags in an easy accesable place. Therefor I'm not reaching all the way in my tank to retreive something for someone. Plus I think there is a benifit of having the corals closer to the light so they grow faster plus with spot feeding its easier, and the growth is crazy.

I often see frag stations that rest on the bottom of the tank, and never understood what that was all about. Seems kind of pointless when you do it that way. Yours makes sense though! Again, nice setup!

BUMP...

Im a nobody around here but after reading this thread for the tenth time I just wanted to see it back on top. There is so much good stuff in these few posts.

We go from Williams good looking frag rack (coral propagation) to finding a salt club that is giving frags to members and in return some one wants to help some one back. All the nonsense that goes on in some of these threads (sometimes I have been part of) and a thread like this comes along I feel it needs special attention.

Hey! How bout a "thread of the week/month maybe?
