Icon5 using ocean "rubble"

In my endeavor to make a small frag tank I am curious about using "rubble" or small pieces of live rock from the ocean. Should I cure it completely and then glue to it? Should I completely clean it out i.e. boil it or does the frag specimen need the living organisms in the live rock?

Yeah you can use the real ocean rock,I dont know where you live here in Florida but dont get caught. But yeah you gotta cure it first. Why not just use some plugs or discs?Or just buy some rubble rock from LFS.

I was just curious is all. Im near Sarasota and right near some of the boat launches there is a pier that goes out about 60 yds and the water is only about 4-6 ft deep with a ton of rocks here and there. Kinda stuff like tourists take home. I was more in it for the fact that I go there alot and wanted to try it out is all.

You can collect soft corals, inverts and fish. Here is a link to the FWC website stating what you are allowed to harvest and daily bag limits.
RECREATIONAL HARVESTING INFORMATION FOR MARINE LIFE SPECIES

Rock is still prohibited though, I think!

Hey thanks for the site, yes rock is still prohibited but under some circumstances (like away from any reef , bare, near beach) it isnt so monitered due to tourists. I wouldnt ever do what alot of tourists do and break of corals to take home or anything like that but I was mainly thinking rubble with no visible growth. I will more than likely just by some base rock in the end anyway.

Hosser, if you collect rock or sand you will want to get it as far from the shore as possible due to the pollutants. Especially here in the gulf.
