Default New to Hobby with DIY question

I am looking at building my own wet/dry system that goes into a sump, i want to save a buck and have a Wavemacker on the Retun line of my sump, do you think i will have enough water movement doing this or should i not be shuch a tite ass and buy a seperate pump for a closer loop wavemaking system.

here is a drawing of my idea

made with a 10 gal tank and a plastic bucket on top of that fot the tricke system

Most reef setups don't use a trully wet/dry system. They just imploy a sump system wherein most of the equipment is stored in the sump including heaters, protein skimmers to name a few.

Bio balls needs to be cleaned regularly and most reef builders choose not to keep them due to that fact that they can become nitrate factories from lack of cleaning/maintenance.

With that in mind I don't suggest bio balls, or even a wet/dry system, rather just some mechanical filtration to collect debris in the water that is located in the sump. A simple way to do this is to buy filter foam.

With the wavemaker, you can easily achieve this by way of using a SCWD, which had on my 75 gallon. It worked quite well, you just need to be sure to have a strong enough pump to work it as it will downgrade your output by at least 200 GPH, not including pump loss due to height of the aquarium. (head loss)
