Default Auto Top Off - 12v DC Pump!

Hi Guys,

So while researching the whole DIY ATOs, it seemed like one major issue is how not to pass any large voltage to the tank... it occurred to me that there must be a low voltage pump that could do the trick. My boat friends suggested a bilge pump!

Grainger has a bunch!
Pumps > Marine-RV > Marine Bilge Pumps : Grainger Industrial Supply

I selected item#: 4NX14 (fifth from the bottom)
Pump,Bilge,12 Vdc
Bilge Pump, Voltage Rating 12 VDC, Maximum Flow 360 GPH, Current Rating 2.1 Amps, Water Flow @ 0 Foot of Head 360 GPH

Items:
1) Float switch + Mold-a-Holder -- Aquahub Homepage
2) Grainger pump (above)
3) Computer power supply from an old external hard drive 120v in 12v out!
(Make sure to check the out amps -- my was 2 amps - perfect for above)

I'll post some pics tomorrow, got it hooked up and seems to be running fine.

Nice DIY project Mason, seems like all the current matches up very nicely. Would love to see the build pictures whenever you have time!

Thanks Tony, doing tank upkeep this afternoon... I'll post a nice dyi tonight.

We've got 4 tanks going so it's a bit of a task... our seahorses are about to have babies and I've gotta get things right before he turns them loose!

Oh wow, very nice, congrats and good luck on the breeding then! I know running multiple tanks is a huge responsibility only for the dedicated (which you are.) No rush on the pictures, take your time with the SH'es.. Now you have two great topics to post on haha

Talk to you soon!
