Default Problem with lighting *HELP*

k so my light was already kinda crappy, it only had 3 legs cause 1 fell off (i still have it) then when i was moving something, i knocked the whole light ficture in the water, it made a sizzle noise but it turned out alright. i dont wanna just put it how it was again. i cant put the leg back on cause its still not balanced cause the legs arnt balanced. my tank is 3ft long and the light is like 2ft 11inches. im thinkin about makin a stand out of wood that will not touch the tank at all but hold the light over it. |___|-tank
|__|-light [you see the problem]
-Any Suggestions? It would be most appriciated, and im on 0 income so no $$

Yes you probably can build a stand
I don't know how (not that good with wood myself) or maybe hanging it over the tank if you don't have enough wood or materials for the frame just throwing some ideas out there

I Would Build A Canopy Top For The Tank, You Can Hang Your Lighting By Simply Screwing Them Into The Top, This Is How Mine Is Setup, And It Works Really Good. I Would Offset My Canopy To Where You Have At Least A 1 Inch Gap All The Way Around The Tank, Then The Way You Place It On The Tank Securely, Just Use 4........ 2 By 2 Blocks At Least 4 Inch's Long, This Will Make The Canopy Easy To Put On An Take Off.

thank you i understand to use the canopy, but do u mean drill a hole in my ceiling and hang the canopy from that and have the lighting sit on the canopy? my light is shorter than my tank so.. can you send pics please so its easier to see what you mean.

I think that he means tobuild a canopy to fit the top of the tank then screw the light fixture to the inside of the canopy. The canopy would sit on top of the fish tank.

oooo i c thanks. either ill try that idea or try just cutting a board thats like 2 inches longer than the tank on each side and leave 1-2 inch cutouts across the board, to let light through and let the light sit on that, but that looks kinda ghetto haha.

You can also have 2 pieces of glass that lay all the way across the tank, front to back. They need to be a bit longer than the width of the tank, and 3-4 inches wide. Yopu just lay these across the tank at either end then lay your light on top of the glass. That is how the light sat on our old tank, because the tank was 4 feet long and the light was 3 feet long. You also need to make sure that your bulbs themselves are not directly over the water, meaning the light in enclosed, ours had a clear plastic cover over the bulbs. The plastic cover got salt buildup on it, but not the bulbs themselves, so you just had to wipe the cover off now and then.
