Default Chemical Media Reactor

Hi Everybody!

I am now building a protein skimmer and had some leftover clear acrilic pipes and I would like to make one or two media reactors.

I was thinking of taking two pieces of pipes at lest 12" high and covering the bottom of the pipes with a rectangular piece of acrillic. The piece of acrilic will have a bulkhead for each pipe and the flow will be from the bottom-upwards. I would like for the flow to come from the outflow of the skimmer. This way I will not need to use another pump.

The other idea I had was to make a U shaped pvc and acrilic pipe where the overflow of the skimmer or sump will pourin one side and exit the other. Again this is to make the media reactors without adding an extra waterpump or powerhead.

What do you guys think of these desings? What would you do? Any desing ideas or coments would be great,

Thank You and

HAPPY REEFING!

great idea as long as there is enough water pressure from the skimmer outflow to make it thru the media & back out.

If there isn't enough flow from the skimmer outlet, you could T-off your overflow line and use a gate-valve to regulate the flow you want going to your reactor/s....just another way of not using gravity instead of a pump.

I like building stuff myself too..but u can usually get the 2LF Reactors for like $30 on sale at Dr.Fosters or Marine Depot...I have 2 of them and they work great for carbon.
